Hand carved from burr elm sourced in Suffolk. Sadly Elm is not as common as it once was with Dutch Elm disease devastating populations across the UK. It is a strong and durable wood with resistance to water with a beautiful twisted grain. Burr Elm is a highly sought after figure wood where the grain has grown in a deformed manner. Often visible on the trunk as a rounded growth, filled with knots from dormant buds or chewed by livestock.
